Harm Museum

When walking in to the the exhibit the first thing is see in Suzanne Opton Soldier series "Soldier: Dougherty- 302 Days in Afghanistan"  I keep looking around to find a few more each have how many days they have been deployed. Beside one female soldier you says that they will be able to give the amount. Each of these portraits of the soldiers tells alot more then just the amount of time they been away form their homes. They each give us this longing and need for rest and comfort. I see depression and lost in each of their eyes. There is no hope to be found in there faces. She does a wonderful job in making the ground and the background part of the piece. The different kinds floor surfaces give each picture it's on story. Known of the surfaces that these soldiers are laying on are things the would be comfortable and things they find back at home.

The another artist that had work in the same exhibit. Ben Lowy  works cuaght my eyes. When looking around at each work. He is documenting the war as well making art work. They can be seen not only as this gorgeous piece of art work but as so kind of photo in are history books that talks about the after math of war. The one the stood out to me the most was " Two Libyan Women Walk through a park on the outskirts of martyrs' square, seen through bullet-shattered window in a Gadafi  government domestic spy office" First off you are looking through this window hole that was caused by aftermath of war and violence.  Another way at looking at it is in the bullet hole you see this building and plants it looks normal. Like you see any where you look down town ( just looking at that hole I see UF  building) a peaceful sense then when you move outside of the hole you see the broken glass. You through the broken glasss you see a pretty roughed up street. You see a dirty street and two women walking together (they can't walk alone because it's improper and unsafe). Looking through that whole I could believe that is just around the cinder but when looking outside of that whole I see that isn't something I would find in my daily life.

Wrong

I have never like my body as long as I have remember from my toes to my hair. I have always had body image problems. Even when I weighted 145 pounds, swim twice a day and had a lifeguard body; the tan skin and long blond hair. I want to be more skinny, have more muslce, longer hair and hair that didn't get in knots everytime I moved it. Right now I am largest I have ever been in my life. A lot having do with stress from school and my medication but I am the happiest I have ever been in my life besides the one problem; my body. In this piece I go through each part of my body with a red marker. I draw "X", circles and arrows showing what I hate and what I would change about myself. But when looking at my whole body I see that I have red marker every where on my body. If I were to change everything that is wrong about my body then I wouldn't be the same person. I wouldn't be Anna Hoffmann. I wouldn't be engaged to the love of my life or have the best cat in the world. I wouldn't have the friends I have now, go to UF or be a photographer. Evrything I hate about myself, the scars, the fat, messy hair make me to be who I am today.
I have along way to go to loving my body and myself but this project has made me realizes and accept that I must learn to love myself because if I dont then I can never learn to love the things I have and the people that love me.

Recreation of I am beautiful Artist are beautiful

I got a better reaction of my piece then I thought I would. Body image is something I think everyone has a problem with. I know I have a big problem with it. Making a piece that talks about everything I love about myself is hard because I don't love everything about myself. But if I keep telling myself that I do love myself and everything about myself one day I will learn to love everything  about my body. I would like to keep doing pieces like this beacuse it will help understand that my body is beautiful and I need learn to love it.

brown eyes

I really enjoyed this class assignment. I have never looked into someones eye's for that long. Once we were in to the assignment by a couple of minutes looking into Jordan's eyes I felt like time had stop. My body became high and around Jordan's eyes became blurry. At the beginning my eyes became crossed eye so I had to blink.

project 4 review

So I thought about it and I think I am going to go through my body part saying what I hate about it. I will write\draw on that body part that makes me upset. I will use my own voice because It will go better with the other video I plan on doing.  I have already order the markers for it. I plan on using the purple one because that's the color they use in plastic surgery.

Tuesday, November 15, 2016

For these next two projects I plan doing two videos that relate to each other. The project will relate to marina abramovic "I am beautiful artist must be beautiful" The first project I plan on going through each body part saying how much I love it and why. The second video I will go through each body part and tell how much I hate it, whats wrong with it. I add make up, paint my nails, shave....

I believe these would both do well in the bathroom and bedroom.
Props- make up, nail polish, shaver.... things to make me pretty.
I like my voice to emotional to the video. Or maybe monotone voice . I go type everything in to google or something.

after thoughts project 3

I have very happy with our projects. I believe that all of them that we have seen went really well specially the fact of the short of time period we had. I wasn't positive that my film was going to go well with the class. The feed back I got I believe that it would help with enhancing my film. Like moving the things out of way that aren't mine. I do believe the focusing on the giraffe eyes as he is being crushed by my stuff help. As well putting the tripod of the pile with camera had a good effect on the end.

project three

The belongings that we hold onto are the things that are important to us. They tell the story of what we find valuable: money, electronics, books, sentimental objects: we all hold dear different things. The things that I find valuable are the objects that have sentimental meaning for me: things that I have collected since I've been a child. I believe that I've collected more toys than clothes, and I consider them one of the most valuable objects I own. This piece illustrates the timeline of the different things I've collected throughout my life.

Maya Deren and Alexander Hammid's Meshes in the Afternoon (1943)

These are classic, influential surrealist films (originally silent, so if you didn't bring headphones, no worries).
As you watch the film, consider the questions below, and then post your responses on your blog:

  • What story or narrative do you think the filmmakers are trying to impart? Is there more than one story?

  • In Maya Deren and Alexander Hammid's Meshes in the Afternoon (1943) I feel like the fist scene where the lady gets the flower, walks around the house and then asleep in the chair. Then it happens all over again and again. Each time it gets more crazy. It is like dream in within a dream within another dream. The camera starts moving side to side. Like the world is being turned upside down.  I believe there is a story in a story.
  • Describe a couple of the symbols / motifs used -- what do you think they mean?
  • How do the filmmakers communicate the passage of time (briefly describe a specific scene and the strategies used)? the scene in the stairwell when the move the camera to the side to side and the jmp cuts to her moving around the stairwell. Taking about the passage of time.

I think the feedback I got from the class was great. The cardboard box was a great idea to use in my project but I believe I would need more time to do that idea. The ending were I put the camera on top of the pile was great but then it wouldn't follow the story line of when I got it because i got it a few years ago. But I love the idea and I am going to stick to the idea idea of putting the camera on top to finish the video. I am just going to pile things on top my bed. I will put objects that I had gotten along time ago first then pile things I have gotten more recent.

Story Board Ideas project 3

First Idea
Concept: A lot of the time we see something one way we are brought up that way. We are quick to judge on the past. I want to do a project were watching you see to common enemy example cat and dog or bird and cat. I want to use mouse and cat. You will see them but they will never be in the same space. Near the end I want you to believe that they are chasing each other. but when I finish story both will actually but not even on the same space and made you believe that they were or the whole time the mouse was actually chasing the cat.
One: See cat sleeping or laying down. Two: Mouse sleeping cleaning himself.

Three: Cat looks up and around something has caught her

Place: My bedroom
In the film: Lucy (Cat) and Fido (mouse)
I been look at chasing senses Tom and Jerry, Mr Fantastic Fox

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xb8jTvSwJbw

Problems- I will not be here this weekend so the only time I will be able to do this is next Monday.

Second Idea
I broke it down First- 6ft by 6ft if I had all my things in a space of 6ft by 6ft. Would it tell my story? Could you tell that all the things belong to me? Would other people think it is shitty stuff, would they find value in it? Would I found value in it?
If I pilled everything I own in to a 6ft by 6ft I would be passing though time in that space I could start with the very first things I own and still have to the things I just got yesterday.

I would start with taping 6ft by 6ft space on the floor and then put the first object in the center. From there I would keep piling things in the space until everything I have is in the pile form there maybe I will push over the pile to find the first thing I own and set on the top next to the last thing I got. Maybe I will take everything off the pile and the last thing you see is the first thing I own.
Idea when I am putting the objects on the pile in the corner of the screen I will label the year I got the object.
Place: Bedroom or living room
Things I own: stuff animals, cloths, toys, books, art work, art supplies, bathing stuff, pets etc...
I will have to not use things that I share with my fiance.

Ideas for this project I have been thinking of my favorite t.v. shows I watched as a child. Tom and Jerry was one i want to do something like it. I use my cat and my pet mouse to run around in an area. I have two different ending one with they are running after each other well the camera makes you believe that but in the end both of them were never in the same area. The second one is it looks like lucy the cat is running after the mouse fido but in the end its fido chasing after lucy.

class work

https://vimeo.com/187916883
In a comic, does each frame represent a single moment in time? Why or why not? What about in video? no it represents more than one moment because it doesn't take just one moment for your eyes to read across the page.I believe in a video one shot is one moment when it is playing but if you freeze it then it can be more than one moment because once again it take time to look at the whole thing.
         - In comics, time and space are “one and the same.” How so? because in the panel that is made up over the time in which is going on and the space in which is happening in the panel. Contrast these strategies with how artists represent space and time in film and video.when it comes to film what is on the screen is are panel like in the comic strip that read. A lots of time the use different ways to show time is passing and the space is being use. one way would be with music.  How do artists represent space in moving image? by moving the camera around to show the space in which it is in. or moving the camera close up show how small or far away from the subject to show how big of space they have. How do we know the space is larger? comparing it to other things in the room we would normal know what size they are. How does an artist elicit claustrophobia on film or video? Provide 2 specific examples from films or videos or TV shows you have seen. Inception and Stranger Things both of these film use time and space in a different way.  For one Stranger Things talks about two different world which share the same space but are on two different times. So they dont mix with each other.  With Inception they are going in to different space but on the same time line.

After thoughts of Project two

I am pretty happy with this project. It might not have had the affect I hoping it get when it came to people feel like the sleeping. But I am happy with the fact that people did jump at the end. I do believe that it need to be lower in volume to help with people become more calm. I really did enjoyed everyone work. They brought me in soundscape each time even when they used similar sounds.

Project two final

Life still goes on when you sleep. Nothing stops once your eyes have closed: the world keeps turning like it has for thousands of years. People die, people suffer, and time goes on. My intention in this project is to try to illustrate both the act of sleeping and this simple fact by turning more angry, negative sounds into a mostly peaceful, almost meditative soundscape. It begins with the sensation of falling asleep: a lull with a light noise of crickets, and the thump of blood slowing down throughout your body. Throughout the project, a slow thump repeats, representing the heart in the background of the sleep. The soundscape then moves into different lucid dreams. Some dream of life without pain, some dream about different worlds, or running between worlds. While we sleep we can have many different dreams. I show this by representing dreams as very surreal groaning noises comprised of several different sounds put together. The soundscape ends with a loud jolt, symbolizing the moment of waking: the jolt back to consciousness and everything in the world that suddenly reappears as it was before sleep.

Feedback Project 2

The feedback I think was great but I personal Just wasn't getting it inside my head. I am not sure what I am going to do with the project. Maybe I will take things that really freak me and other people out and record them and turn them into something that can make people get in to that state of mind right before they fall sleep.  Other than me not knowing what to do the feedback was great.

Project 2 sounds

For this project I want to put my listeners to the state mind right before sleep, Hypnagogia. In this state of mind you become calm, you start to have lucid thoughts.
definition- Hypnagogia is the experience of the transitional state from wakefulness to sleep: the hypnagogic state of consciousness, during the onset of sleep. Mental phenomena that occur during this "threshold consciousness" phase include lucid thought, lucid dreaminghallucinations, and sleep paralysis.

I want really one to become relaxed. So bring a pillow or blanket or jacket. Sit any where you want that doesn't make uncomfortable. Close your eyes.

Water -( rain )
Music -( Jazz or any calming music that doesn't have words in it )
Nature -( Birds, Wind ( leaves ), Crickets, Owls )

Feedback on project one

The critique about my project went a lot better than I thought it was going to go. I guess after watching the video over and over all you can see is whats wrong with it and what you make better with it but you can't do that because you do not have time to do it. The things people wanted me to fix were things I feel like I as well knew needed fixing. The one thing I did really think about was having the black and white part in a different color tone or something. Which I think its a great idea to go back and try it different ways. So I can pick the best one for the video. I know I need to work on lighting which is something you could tell in the project. But with time a practice I will get better.

Project 2 ideas

For this project I want to work with noises or sounds that make you tried. I want it to make you really sleepy and calm. were you want to fall or do fall a sleep in listening to it over and over. I made a recording of me yawning and water dropping in a sink. I know when I hear people yawning it makes me yawn and then I become tried. What also makes me sleepy is water dropping or rain. I wanted to get rain record but that didn't happen.

I know the running water did really work out as I hoped I need to keep working with it.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE SOMETIMES

i found the noise to be the singing in the back ground because for one i cannot really hear it and it come and goes. what i found to be the guitar playing that static sounds to be the more pleasing to the ear because i can hear it more clearly.
sounds- Guitar electric, key board, singing
I believe this piece's to be music because it has an outline to it,  theme and story line.

Day Dream

The film "Day Dream" is meant to remind us of our childhood and the day dreams we used to have when we were children. Children often bring cartoons and other characters from their lives into their fantasy. It is difficult to hold on to the memories of childhood. As a child I had a pretty big imagination: I used to dream that I was a superhero solving crimes. Children tend to have pretty positive experiences in their daydreams. As we grow older we become more negative on the world, we see things for how they really are in reality. This film starts fairly positively, but at the end a quick turn of events happens and it becomes more negative. The main figure wakes up freaked out because the real world has invaded their childhood fantasy and nothing is sugarcoated any more.
I use Legos because they depict that representation of childhood. Holding on to the innocent and positivity of childhood is hard: trying to remember how you could have been so happy when you were little and there was so much negative going on in the world. A child sees only the little happy things in life: like hanging out with Batman in their head, or going to get ice cream. We need to learn that things may not be sugar coated for us anymore but that does not mean we cannot sprinkle some sugar for ourselves and the people around us.

Feedback

  • I believed the feedback was great even though it was short. They helped me think out side of the normal thing Scooby Doo would do.  And to pick how I will start my film. I do believe I will go in a different direction with Scooby Doo normally will be seen doing.

story board

Project One

Ideas
When it comes to shorts films I think of something funny but it does not need to be happy
So I brain storm things I liked and found funny and what I had a lot of to use in my film.
Funny: cartoons, things scaring people, people falling down or doing stupid things
Like: Giraffes, dogs, cats, sunflowers, nature, cartoons

Tools: Clay, toys: Legos, Stuff animals

First Story board
Two good friends (dog and cat) having picnic by a tree. while enjoying themselves monster come out and scare them. they chased and rescued by a spaceship.
Tools : Legos

Second Story board
Dog is walking down the street having great time. cat is following be hide to scare dog, scares dog. dog chasing cat up tree. person comes up and dog looks at person then looks at cat and person thinking cat is stuck up in the tree climbs up grabs cat. takes the cat down puts next to dog. close up happy dog and then flashes to scared cat.
Tools: Legos

Proposal
In this stop motion film I want to do something that is child like. As a child you find a lot of this funny. A lot of my childhood I watched Scooby Doo which would explain why I have Scooby Doo legos still. In this stop action film I want the viewer to see a little of how I would of had Scooby Doo go. Putting the cat in the film I add my own personally thing to the film. When using this medium of Legos it does bring back a lot of my childhood. I believe it works well when bring the child to life in the film.

Rehearsal for Extinct Anatomies Short Film

My feelings about this Short Film Rehearsal for Extinct Anatomies was more less kind of creepy. Maybe because I wasn’t in the mood to watch a film that was dark, depressing and odd. Every time the doll pressed the thing on his forehead it made me a little queasy. What I did enjoy was the part where one of the creatures had a pen and was dancing along with the strings. I also like the fact it was in black and white because in color it just seems like it would give and different mood. I personally I have no clue what is going on in this film. I can say that the bump on the dolls forehead seems to be the start of it and the end.

reflective blog post

I think I would have done my project maybe on bigger paper with thicker markers. I also would track down more information on how I felt during certain times so I could draw the lines differently. I also believe this art piece should continue of a period of days. I really enjoyed Katharine Chu time piece the more you look at it the more you see. I think she did a great job at showing her day with layering all the drawings that she did. I feel like it shows a lot different kinds of moods that she could have been feeling that day. I believe art work should be awarding for both the viewer and artist. When she said that it was awarding to see her art work all together was pleasing.

The Quick and the Dead

These two wristwatches were made by Adrian Piper and come from the 1968 Collection Generali Foundation, Vienna. One on the left I find to be more of a feminine watch with a square face, while the one on the right, with its circular face, I find more masculine. The one on the left is around 3:52 and the one the right is at 3:57. The importance of this piece relies on the importance of timepieces: their ostensible mastery over the domain of specific time. Yet when you lay these two watches next to each other you see a time difference of five minutes, and in the space between them you see those five minutes laying there, either elapsed or not, with the infinity of the world that happens there deciding which reality is correct.

The pack of smoked cigarettes in the abandoned alley represents the desolate nature of the urban landscape. This image serves as a depiction of the detached nature of man's existence in cities and his dissociation therein with the innocence of his natural state.
