The Quick and the Dead

These two wristwatches were made by Adrian Piper and come from the 1968 Collection Generali Foundation, Vienna. One on the left I find to be more of a feminine watch with a square face, while the one on the right, with its circular face, I find more masculine. The one on the left is around 3:52 and the one the right is at 3:57. The importance of this piece relies on the importance of timepieces: their ostensible mastery over the domain of specific time. Yet when you lay these two watches next to each other you see a time difference of five minutes, and in the space between them you see those five minutes laying there, either elapsed or not, with the infinity of the world that happens there deciding which reality is correct.
